Cayman's Distillery & Brewery Tours

Cayman is home to some pretty unique beverages. From Seven Fathoms rum which is distilled at 7 fathoms of under sea pressure to White Tip, the beer that saves sharks.

Whether it be a rainy day or you just need a break from the sun, take a little day trip from Silver Sands and check out the Distillery and one or both of the island's breweries. They do daily tours where you can sample the products and see how these delicious beverages are made.

Duration: 30-40 minutes
Price: $15 USD per person; discounts available for groups of 5 or more.
Location: 68 Bronze Road, Georgetown, Grand Cayman
We strongly recommend booking in advance to secure your tour time – they fill up quickly.

The Cayman Islands Brewery has been operating since 2007 and is Cayman's only brewery, and largest manufacturing facility. Their beers are highly regarded and have won numerous international awards.

Cayman Islands Brewery offers tours Monday-Friday on the hour, 9am-4pm.

The CIB produces four main beers, plus seasonals, all of which are worth sampling. You can purchase their beers from the brewery or from most liquor stores, bars and restaurants Island-wide.

  • Caybrew (5% ABV) A smooth, full-bodied premium lager, with a crisp, clean hop character.
  • Caybrew Premium Light (4.2%) ABV A premium light lager with a smooth sweet finish. Specially crafted to remove the gluten.
  • Ironshore Bock (7% ABV) An amber lager, made with specialist hops from the Cascade Mountains, delivering a unique roasted after taste.
  • White Tip Lager (5.2% ABV) A very smooth pilsner, with bright golden colour. This conservation beer donates $1.20 per case to marine research in the Cayman Islands.
  • 345 Lager (5% ABV) A refreshing light lager, with a short sweet finish. One of the Islands most popular beers.
  • 345 Stout (7.5% ABV) A bold strong stout, with hints of chocolate and smooth roasted finish.
Seasonals include: Mango Tango, Twisted Citrus and Pirates Gold with more available periodically throughout the year.

1981 Brewing Co is the newest brewery on the island and has been operating since 2017. The clever name is the nautical coordinates of the Cayman Islands: 19 degrees north 81 degrees west.

Three beers are the foundation of this unique brewery. Cayman BlondeIsland Session and Tropical IPA. From time to time, you will find limited editions produced in collaboration with local farmers and stakeholders. 1981 prides themselves in bringing you fresh, local, craft beer, made right here in Grand Cayman from the finest ingredients. They are a craft brewery that truly wants to embody in its brews all that our islands represents.

Shipwrecked at Smiths Barcadere

Smiths Barcadere (also commondly called Smiths Cove) is a lovely little twin beach cove surrounded by ironshore and bush, located just south of Georgetown. It is a great little excursion from Silver Sands for a day time snorkel or a different place to watch the sunset. It is a favorite spot for locals, especially on the weekends where people bring picnics, BBQ and enjoy this quaint Cayman cove.

This poor little boat has some major issues at Smiths Cove the other day. I think they managed to save it in the end but it sure made a pretty little picture for us!

Feeling Waterlogged? Dry out at one of Cayman's Incredible Spa's!

For many of you being on vacation means relax, relax and relax some more, and to be honest, staying at Silver Sands it is hard to do anything BUT relax! If you have had a bit of an overdose of the sun, or seem to be a bit waterlogged from all that fun in the Silver Sand's pool, why not try a spa treatment. Cayman has some amazing venues, and there are many more that I have not mentioned but here are my favorites:

Body Works at Queens Court

This is probably my personal favorite place for a massage due to its affordability and over all relaxing atmosphere. They offer a wide range of body and beauty treatments, as well as have a full schedule of daily yoga classes.

Silver Rain Spa at the Ritz Carlton

For an absolute and utterly blissful indulgence, the Silver Rain Spa is the ultimate splurge for a body, mind and soul experience. From the moment you enter your ears are met with the gentle sound of falling rain. The facilities are exactly what is to be expected from the Ritz Carton, a hot tub the size of a plunge pool, steam room, sauna, showers, and refreshing fruit sprays. Once you are ready for your treatment you are lead up to the relax room all in white with comfy couches, coffee table books, and of course fresh fruits, nuts and juices. Here you will be given your lavender neck pillow and the choice of music for your treatment. The treatment itself does not disappoint and you will spend it in peaceful relaxation. After you will reverse the process, but with a glass of champaign and chocolate covered fresh strawberries to top it off. Although this is a very expensive option, if spas are your thing, you simply cannot pass this up.

Perfectly Pampered Mobile Massage

Too comfortable to leave the Silver Sand's property? Have an amazing masseuse come to you. They bring it all, table, soothing music and magic fingers to transform your space, mind and body into a temporary spa. They can set up inside in the AC or outside with a view.

Plant of the Month: Delicious Local Avocados

The West Indian Avocado is the local avocado you will find growing on trees down here in Cayman. There are several different kinds of avocado through out the globe, with differences in the shape and size of the fruit, to the textures of the skin. What do they all have in common? Avocados are all delicious! and we are so lucky to have one growing right here on the Silver Sands grounds.

Mostly everyone likes guacamole and knows how to make their favorite version of the delicious dip. But have you ever thought of making avocado chocolate mousse?? I know crazy idea right, but I can speak from recent experience that it is awesome! And so simple to create. Here is a simple recipe:

1-2 large avocados
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup soy or almond milk
1/4 honey, maple sugar or sweetener of your choice
1 tsp vanilla

Mix together until creamy and well blended, chill and enjoy!

And now the maze to find the avocado tree, this photo pretty clearly shows where it is on the grounds, now if your are lucky to pass by when there is a ripe avocado on the tree ready for picking!
